I've been through hell getting this car back on the road. Rebuilt the engine, replaced the torque converter twice, dealt with kinked and broken tranny cooler lines and now the balancer decides to fail. Oh well at least I know there isn't much else to go wrong. I'm a little strapped for cash and $200 is a bit steep for a new one. I didn't even pay that much for my torque converter. Seems silly to charge so much for a pully. Anybody know where I could get one cheaper? Thanks....

Not yet. Been looking around though. Found slightly better price on ebay $153 with free shipping. Found guy who rebuilds them for $115 plus shipping. Might as well go new for that price. Guess I better start saving up...

I am sure you aren't limited to 1964. Perhaps the balancer changed when they went to a cast crank (1975?). I think in all slants, the balancer included the inner pulley, which would be your only crank pulley if non-AC, non-pwr steering.

I have one from a 71 225 with A/C

1 dollar per pound plus shipping if your interested

Unsure if the timing marks changed, but that outer ring can slip. My TDC mark was 10° retarded. So the 8° advance I thought I was running was really 2° ATDC. Just something to think about...

But, at the same time, I don't know how accurate new ones even are. Will find that out sometime in the future.

Edit: an unacurate timing mark won't be that big of deal, IF you can find TRUE TDC, and then mark the balancer accordingly.

BTW, per the Mopar Direct Connection Performance Book:
"The 170, 198, and 225 all use the same vibration damper PN 2806211. The '76-77 cast crank engine uses a different damper PN 4071060. They should not be swapped"

When I needed one for my slant I called up mopar city junkyard and they had one. It was a pretty decent cost (like 40) from what I remember.

Cool thanks for the info...That makes this much easier. Wasn't sure about the crank being the same. Thought they changed a few things in '66.

I knew something had changed because I had to make sure I was getting the right torque conv. Thanks again....
