allright guys, i am looking at building a little pedastal to mount a beacon to my plow truck

the idea is to build a C shaped frame out of angle iron that will lay on top of the front of the bed, and torwards the back a little on the sides
then ill weld some 1x1 mild steel pedastals that go up around the read window and are connected with a cross bar just above the 3rd brake light

i intend to mount the light right on this cross bar

(i considered the mounts that use the third brake light, but that would add too much height to the truck and i wont be able to fit in the garage anymore)

i think by doing it this way, i can still use my tonneau cover
i think i can drill a hole through the rearward facing legs of the mount and clamp it down on the inside of the bed, but the tonneau cover will act as one big clamp as well

any thoughts on this ?
anything im overlooking, and does it sound strong enough ?
(the light weights next to nothing and i intend to weld in a few gussets)

This is how far I got today, the rest of the steel won't be in untill Friday

(I moved the gussest for the uprights out because the tonneau cover is too tight to the cab right at the sliding window)

I know, nobody cares

I added the hoop, just need to add something to mount the light on (2x1 angle) and some type of gusset to sturdy it up a little
