Cam degree question

OK, so if you advance your cam via the crank by 4 degrees, when you set your timing marks on the timing cover to the balancer, do you set it 4 degrees advanced? or set it to 0?

TDC does not change when you degree the cam, the relationship between the cam and the crank changes...

You need to set the balancer to crank shaft TDC...

Timing marks are dictated by the balancers timing mark and it's relation to true top dead center. Timing marks on the balancers have zero effect on cam timing. Cam timing and cam centerline is verified and adjusted using the degree wheel once true top dead center has been established.

Krazycuda - what I was attempting to understand "You need to set the balancer to crank shaft TDC..." This makes sense, just wanted a 2nd and 3rd opinion.

So in reality, if you set your cam phase via the crank at 4 degrees advanced, the old mark on the balancer/timing cover would show 4 degrees advanced (if you put all back together without moving anything).

Zero on the balancer/timing mark should equal = TDC correct

............If ur talking about using and adjustable crank gear then NO ur crank does not move ,it stays in the same spot in relation to the timing cover, u r moving the cam ahead...unless I am somehow misunderstanding u?......disregard this.....kim....
