I bought a used cam and lifters for $40 at a swap meet today. The guy believes the cam is a purple but cant be sure. All he knew was that it was pretty mild and was in a 360.

It is stamped H36KDGwith an X under that and a number 6 down the bottom on the rear end of shaft. The lifters it came with were boxed and marked P2843177.

Any ideas what size/duration?

The only way to tell what size the cam is, is to degree it...

You can easily do so. You either need a "junk engine" in which you can install the cam, or else 'th bench.'

You can easily MAKE good enough V blocks out of wood, dial indicators are cheap,

Use a degree wheel on the cam, and you'll have to transpose the numbers to crank degrees.

A caliper measuring the "sides" and overall of the lobe, then subtract the two, and multiply that answer X 1.5 (rocker ratio) will give you "some idea" of the cam lift.
