Will a 741 fit a 742 center chunk in a 8.75 rear??? Thanks

741, 742, and 489 will interchange on any 8 3/4 axle housing.

the ring and pinion are not interchangeable between the 3 center sections

However the sure grip unit will fit interchange between the 741,742,489.

You can not take gears from a 489 and put them in a 742/741 case. However either case will bolt to any 8.75 housing.

All you need is the center section. One for cruisin' and one to swap in for the track.

that's what I want so I can swap a 489 4-56 and the put back in my 741 say 3.55

Ring and pinion need to stay with the proper case (489, 741, or 742) but sure, you can have a 489 for the track and put a 741 or 742 back in it for cruising, no problem. And as was said earlier, you can swap a suregrip from 1 case to another, just keep the carrier bearings with the suregrip. (bearings and races are different between them but the OD on the race is all the same)
