Is there any way to find out what engine the distributor went into originally and what year it was?

I have a distributor I want to use and I'm wondering if the mechanical advance curve is different depending on it's original application.

Also one of the distributor cap holddown clips is missing, does anybody have one or know where I could get one?

Thanks, Gary

Only if it has the original number AND if it has never been {{{[[[" " " rebuilt " " "]]}} buy some of the big big really big so called "rebuilders."

After things like alternators, carburetors, and distributors become the victims of these organizations, they no longer have their original personality.

Little to no help department:
If it has six vanes on the reluctor it came from a slant six… But, you already knew that.

It is a V8 distributor, it came along with a 70 340 I bought back in the mid 80s.

The number on the tag that's on it is: 3690430

It's fairly clean, doesn't look like it's seen much use.
