console strip / resto

I've got a beat woodgrain top in an automatic A-body console. The entire console needs a do-over in fact.

Questions:

1) whats the best way to strip off the old woodgrain?
2) is the plastic sliding piece (that covers the shift position letters) available? mine is broke
3) In a brown interior car, would the console also be brown? or just the carpet?

consoles were black unless it was a hang 10 then it was white and orange new woodgrain is made for them I would use a rubber blade and maby a little heat and yes the slides are being made for them

thanks. chrome has some pitting. I might just have to powder coat it.
