Disc brake Calipers

Does it matter if they are on the front or the back of the caliper?

yea thats what he means. some guys usually swap the left spindle over to the right side and right spindle over to the left side. this will mount your calipers to the rear of the car, (rear of the rotor) and they do this to gain sway bar clearance on the earlier cars. (67-72)

As long as the caliper clears everything and you keep the bleeders on the top, it really doesn't matter.

factory was on the front I always put mine in the back just make sure the bleeders are on top of the caliper
