door emblem fasteners

i am completing the interior on a 71 demon. As I go to install the door emblems, I notice there are cylinder shaped fasteners that go on two posts on each one. Those go through a hole in the door, securing it. Anyone with knowledge as to how to install them safely? These things are 46 years old so they have to be brittle and I don't want to damage them. Two of the fasteners stayed in the door when we disassembled the car and I just noticed that.

I'd say try pushing in the fastener into the door 1st then push the emblem into them. Also maybe putting a little silicone spray lubricant on them also may help get them into the door with out breaking them.
