I just finished installing my 8 1/4 in place of the 7 1/4 in my 73 Duster. I got the 8 1/4 driveshaft that was in another 73 Duster with the rear. The problem is that it is a little larger in diameter than the 7 1/4 unit. It actually ever so slightly touches the left exhaust pipe in a 2 inch area. I dont have enough time until the weekend to take it to the exhaust shop. I need the car this week, as my Charger Daytona is in the shop for service. Will this slight contact only make a slight rubbing noise, or will it be much worse?

I’m surprised your exhaust is that close to the drive shaft.
Not factory?
I wouldn't want my drive shaft rubbing on the exhaust.
I can only see one immediate solution.:violent1:
(Dimple the exhaust NOT the drive shaft.)

You are going to have to change the exhaust anyway, right?

is the suspension loaded? or is it still hanging on jackstands?

Just thought of that last night........when I set it back down, it came off of the exhaust a tad, so it should be ok for now. I need to go back tonight and retighten the ubolts and grease the ujoints. I didnt hear any terrible clunks or grinding noises, just the rear adjusting into the ubolts and seating itself.

So far, so good!!
