Getting around to building my second 273 engine that came up with rod knock.
I'm thinking about using this erson SOLID cam again ......... only difference is going with high compression 10.5:1 stock dome pistons . closed chamber heads again ld4b headers 4 speed. This cam was used with 4 relief pistons before it came up with a rod knock. Probally had around 9.1 compression approx. It actually ran pretty good . just wondering what you guys think if I were to put this cam back in another engine and give it some 10.5 compression. another 273 block is ready to assemble.

Sounds like fun if you can make it work and keep the tires under it. LOL

Just make sure you dial it in and check piston to valve clearances.

It sounds angry! How big was your smile when you first heard it run?

Yeah mike , that was a nasty sounding cam .
So do you think by adding dome pistons would help this cam out some ? maybe help with low end grunt ? It did perform very well in previous engine with approx 9.0 compression .

I would think a point or two of compression would help quite a bit. It will be more angry. You will be able to hear it. It will be a interesting comparison because everything else will remain the same. Just compression will change.

That erson ..... the exhaust was real quite it on it, when I first bought the Barracuda , but you could here that it had a big cam in it.

I'm no cam expert by any imagination but.. I would put that in at 102-104 and that should help the low end.. Hell you have it try it. If you just cant stand it then Its just a few gaskets to change.

Pretty Racey cam... It will like more squeeze.

It's pretty close to the Jones cam my son has in his dirt modified. The rules require no more than 9-1 but his 355 is closer to 12-1... Darn thing eats up the competition from the flagstand into turn one.

Good Idea !

advancing the cam doesn't do too much. The HP stays pretty much the same and the torque increases from 283@4000 to 286@4000. Not enough to bother. Thats with stock 4 barrel intake and a 550 carb with stock manifolds and exhaust.

Ima thinking at 10.5cr,your cylinder pressure will be a tad over 165 psi. So, depending on the combo, it could be a tough street-tune.
would this 510 lift erson have enough piston to valve clearance with 10.5 domes and 920 heads ?

Headers and intake made a huge difference
