First time at track. Advice?

-
I made it to the track. Got 2 runs in because evidently it was a diesel truck night. I ended with a 13.5 @ 102mph. .101 reaction and 2.0 60 foot. Now to ditch the 2.76 gears for 3.55 or 3.73.

Thanks for all the comments

Nice!

Everybody starts somewhere. Why intimidate the newbies.

I agree

I've seen slow cars win final round,
I find it funny when it happens.
consistency is all it takes to win

Heck, I took the Satellite last Friday
Had a "Fun" time going slow > 10.02 > 1/8
couldn't believe how consistent the car was > first time out

Compared to my Dart > 6.50 et > 1/8
hard to run the #, due to violent launches > tire spin

Years ago, I've Watched my uncle win street class in Gma's 76 Beetle. More than one time. Always told me it was more consistent and easier to drive than his S/G car. That thing was all day getting to the other end.

Congratulations, sounds like you had a good time.

Who are you again????? Oh the guy that gets all excited with 15 second cars........yeah that guy
Like I thought, not a thing the say. It's fun when folks can go back and read your ignorance :D
But here, I'll help ya out................
I went 17.76 with a '84 2.2 reliant, boy was that fun :D

Nobody except yourself finds your accomplishments cool.......I don't know what more to say after the K car statement.......you are a strange bird.

Uh oh....I told you the addiction would start before you left the track to go home. I predict low 12's within a year. Welcome to the 'dump money into the my Mopar to go faster' society. Its great fun and keeps you out of trouble racing on a track. And its especially cool you have a track so close. Do your research on that 3rd member. And match the torque converter. You don't want to transplant twice!!! Good job and I'm glad to hear about the ET(your reaction times will improve...told you there's lots going on when staging). I'm sure towards the end of the 1/4 mile you were yelling.."come on...come on....baby". God I love the drag strip.

I only own my cars for me and my family, not for others. Compliments are nice, but I don't look for them nor do I need others approval for anything I do to my cars. PERIOD.

YOU, on the other hand, are worried what the folks in the stands think (you stated that).... and THAT, my friend, is a miserable, sad life worrying about others giving you a little gold sticky star for what it is that you are trying to do... (and in your case, the more you do the slower you go .... it's what you stated :D )
And IF I can help someone or encourage someone in our hobby along the way, I will gladly do it!!!
For you, I just helped you in another way IF you will take the time to read into it, and see how miserable it is trying to be a people pleaser, and jump on the side of those that try to intimidate others.... and as you can see, it didn't work! The OP goes to the dragway, disregarding you and your intimidating buddy, blows the both of you out of the water, and without regards to either of you, is looking into the 12's...
This is how you enjoy the hobby :)

Nice run for a car with some tall gears in it. Sort of like my friends car. Ran a 13.20 at 106... the 2.0 60' didn't help with 2.94 gears.

102 mph will get you a 13.00ish slip if you can whittle the 60' down to low 1.80's. Chassis,

I see the shitstirring has begun... I'm out

Nice! Did you use the slicks? I wish I had a track nearby. I don't even have a time on my Duster.

Uhhhh... I find his accomplishments cool. You should try and read a couple of his threads. He builds really fun, really low buck engines. He's building a 4/500 dollar 318 that should run 13's. MAYBE you don't find that cool. But I sure do. OH p.s 13's is factory 340 territory. So you still don't think 13's are cool?

I love guys who say "Well you only ran XX time, that's not very fast/cool/hip/whatever". You must be a real bore to hangout with man. Always one upping "oh my car is", psh your car is boring. Rather than be happy for a guy taking his car to the track. You gotta **** talk about times. And yet, I don't see you posting any time slips? Guys like that can stay the hell away from me and my car in the pits. I'm there to support anyone who's racing. I don't care if they run 10's or if they run 20's. RACING is cool. Period.

As for OP, that's awesome. I'm glad to hear it. 13.5 is good! 2.00 60 foot, is it spinning the tires off the line? Or is it hooking? If it's hooking that means you're definitely going to benefit from some gearing. Don't let the guys in here get yah down. 13's is factory territory for a majority of muscle cars. You can't ask for more!

Exactly!!

Some just have to stroke their own ego to cover up their own insecurities by pissing in someone else's cornflakes.

LOL you dislike my post. But don't say anything or post any time slips? lol just the kinda guy I figured you are.

I did run my slicks and there was no slip off the line.

Then gears it is! Like others mentioned. Around 100 mph you should be able to get that time slip down to 13's even. Maybe lower. Some gears, chassis setup, etc. And you should whittle away at it. Have you dynoed the engine yet? It's useful for telling you where max power is made. Find that. Set your gears with your tires to trap just below that. And I bet you'll pickup some time! And never forget the more time at the track the better! They call it test and tune for a reason!

Yeah I dislike your posts along with a few other people's posts too.....so what??? Is it some unwritten law that everybody has to like and agree with everybody else? Here are a couple very recent time slips, my car, me driving, all paid for by me, my adjustments on the car for better or worse.
