Why use one over the other? For Mig and/or Tig....

Well, as you know, I bought one. After doing some reading, the regulator was a steady flow of the gas and I had no idea how much, so I bought the flowmeter to adjust for different metal thicknesses.

I got it hooked up and I use around 18 to 20 LPM for thinner stuff, and increase it some for thicker stuff.

The way I see it is, I'm not wasting the gas on the thinner metal which is what I will be doing the most of.

I don't know if my thought process is correct, but i did it anyway, lol.

flow meter is for a finer or more accurate adjustment. also, it takes a certain IPM of shielding gas to ionize a certain amount of voltage . furthermore, you can actually blow away the molten material if the flow is to high. I prefer and have flow meters on all my welders over regulators as I do particular welding on different materials. you should stop buy your local welding supply house and get or buy a GOOD weld directory for the consumables that are available. good luck
