Found a car on craigslist, on the fence of getting it

So I found this car on craigslist. Its an amc sx4 but has a 360 purple cam/70 6 pack set up/headers. Has a 727 with shift kit and 3.55 posi 8 3/4. Also I see a set of 15inch torq thrusts I could clean up nice and full set of auto meter gauges. The guy is looking to get 1700 for it.

I do have 3 79 amxs so the fenders/hood/hatch/glass and a lot of parts would work. Also could use the motor for my 71 duster. I think 1700 is a fair price. Figured the wheels with a good polishing and gray paint would be perfect for my 73 cuda project. Would be a 7 hours round trip to get it.

And your still sitting there why? Thats a good price.
 
Pretty much made the deal with the guy, Just need to find a day were both free from work
 
Buy it the car will at least start up, the six pac and wheels alone will cover the buy in price.
 
He stated it runs but not to great, Hasn't run good since the tune up he did. Probably has the firing order wrong or the carbs need to be rebuilt. He doesn't seem to be much of a mechanic.

Even if so I will tear the motor down some to check bearings/lifters. If they are worn I will do a basic over haul on the engine. I hope to see 340 on the block instead of 360

Thanks tony, I took a break for awhile to be with family, girlfriend, get new 24x41 building up. I'm getting back at it now.


I noticed the side pipes but I have never really been a fan unless there on a factory car, 66 cobra, 70amx, corvettes etc. No idea on brand either.
 
i hope it comes with a aussie shepard, a pair of sick *** leather pants and a sawed off shot gun. that car has mad max written all over it.
 
You want to see mad max, My black amx has all the window louvers, hood scoop etc. People always ask me that.

But made the deal with the guy for 1500, I go get it one day next week whenever the weather is good. After talking to me for over an hour he knows I'm not a tire kicker and will hold it until I get it. Said he found the six pack air cleaner and few other parts as well.

nice amx i had one like it when i lived in fla it was agood car fun to drive

Also have a red one waiting to be restored that is a very clean survivor 100 percent together
 
Got car home today, It runs but was popping out of the intake, Took valve covers off to find a collapsed lifter on number one exhaust. Has receipts of a purple cam and a full rebuild 15,000 miles ago. Side of the block has ta340 on it and the a few of the rockers are offset. Making this a 70 340 6 pack motor. Carbs have been replaced in 2002 from the receipts I can see and holley warranty info and has after market air cleaner.

Has good oil pressure, Wonder if it was over revved taking one lifter out. Either way I want to take motor apart re gasket it and check it over. Will be going in my 71 duster.

Ended up paying 1600 which is a complete steal. Rims are going to clean up super nice, Full set of autometer gauges plus the engine
