I guess you never had a 70 Challenger R/T 383 4 spd, 3.91 gear and NO options. I did. All it needed was a 440 or a HEMI! Waaaaayyyy cooler than a bookmobile.
LOL, no I never did. The owner of the pizza joint that my car club used to meet at had a 1970 Hemi Challenger 4 speed. It was orange with the stock wheels and dog dish hubcaps. He traded it for a more fuel efficient car in 1976.
My first car was a ten year old $500 red 1964 Dodge Polara 500 with a 361 and a four speed. I managed to snag a Stage III 426 wedge for it complete from carbs to pan. I also managed to pick up a complete Max Wedge exhaust from manifolds to exhaust tips. It was a cool car.
The Challenger in the photo appears to be a 1974 or there about probably with a 318.
