fuel pump question

i run a stock carter fuel pump on my small block.. i would like to run -6AN braided fuel line... anyone know what adapter i need to convert the factory thread to -6AN?
 
Most pumps I've seen are 1/4 NPTF (Natinal Pipe Thread, Female), 3/8 NPTF, or 1/2 NPTF for really high volume pumps. You can get NPT (male and female) to AN adapters, its what I have on my Edelbrock mechanical pump.

We would need a part number for your pump to see.

Mine is a stock mechanical on a 318 so probably 1/4 in npt

Okay, now we need to know if you want a straight fitting, or 45° or 90"
Russell (and many others)make what are called adapter fittings, male pipe thread on one end, male AN on the other, in about 50 variations.
Then after you get the right size, and angle, you get to choose between red/blue anodized aluminum, shiny endura (stainless look) or black.

If it's this style of stock pump, it takes a 5/16 male flare fitting.

A pipe thread won't seal in a flare fitting.

currently i have a stock hardline from pump to carb like factory would have done

Then yes to what Professor Fate said. You can get Flare to AN fittings.

If you have a hard line why would you go to AN and hose to the carb?

i was told the braided line was better and the -6AN are superior

Its funny you say that because man years ago the company I worked for bought a Mustang chassis dyno with a 5 gas analyzer to the tune of $25k. The Gas analyzer had a finned cooler where the the hose to the analyzer sniffer attached. The cooler had flared fittings and the wand had a male NPT. They wrapped the crap out of the NPT with Teflon tape and shipped it to us. Pretty sleezy for the price and the fact the analyzer would have false readings if there was a leak anywhere between the sniffer and the gas analyzer system.
