Buddy has a 2006 1 ton, crew cab, 4wd, diesel. What’s it weigh? Or what’s a good site to find it’s weight?

He was hunting at his cabin in Maine, and it started running poorly, only able to sustain 45 mph or so. A “stealer” in Bangor has it now, and is fully prepared to rape him. Told him it doesn’t even have scrap value. ( It’s a well maintained truck.)

He rented a ride home to South Jersey.

Now we’re going to take my F150 and trailer and go get it. Want to get a rough idea of weight. 6000?

My 2002 chevy crew cab diesel 2500 hd went across the scales at the dump at 7500+ on the way in, and 7000+ on the way out.
Edit: and posted "curb weights" are hilarious fiction, most of the time. And a diesel pickup is Never just scrap weight. When mine wouldnt run as fast as normal, the fix was $30. A new fuel filter. That might be all thats wrong with his. The guy in bangor is a THIEF.
Edit 2 Just saw its a 4wd. Might be pushing 8000 lbs.

Probably closer to7k, I just had a gas one on the lift the other day and it was just over 6.

Good running diesel, (other than the current issue, of course), at that. He maintains the filters, just did all that before his trip. I don't know much about diesels, but we'll look it over b4 we load it up. If we fix it, it'll be even more fun to go back to the stealer and ask him why it runs ok now.

Looks like we'll be leaving early Monday, overnight in Bangor, and get it Tuesday morning. i guess get a fuel filter, and what else? I'll bring it home on my trailer, but it'll be alot easier if he can drive it, for sure.

I have another buddy who has a shop, I'll ask him Friday for ideas.

Did he just get fuel? That happened to my 06 2500 crew cab. Fuel filter didn’t fix it. Added 2 cans of seafoam and it cleared up with in minutes. That was in may. Still good yet. Mine weights 7200. Kim

Thanks, Ol Kimmer! I'm putting Seafoam on my list. It just seems like it is something simple.

He's an old peach farmer that would literally, I mean literally put his shirt on your back.
 
We have an 05 with the duramax at work that has had this issue twice. First time was the fuel pressure regulator and this time it is the turbo vanes that are hanging up on startup. You can shut it off and restart it and it will be fine. Haven’t had time to tear into it yet but apparently the turbo will get carbond up and the vanes stick. It did finally throw a code that pointed toward that issue.

I've read about the FPR, but the info has pointed towards modified engines. I do have it on my list of things to look at. Thanks
 
2001 3500 quad cab dually, 2wd, 8.1 Allison, 7460 pounds wet with me in it.
 
My '88 F350 crewcab with the 7.5/C6 tips the scales at a bit over 7300 plus fuel.

The fuel filter head might need to be rebuilt. If its got a vacum leak. You can get a rebuild kit for one for less than a $100 at oriley auto parts. Thsts what happend to my friends 06 6.6 diesel truck.
 
If anybody's looking to get a code scanner, I just got one at Napa. Innova 3030. $100 normally, $50 today. Black Friday deal? I didn't ask, the counter guy wasn't too sharp.
 
If its limited to 45 mph it could be in limp mode and being limited electronically and not have a fueling problem. Look for transmission codes. Also the first thing I’d do is prime the fuel filter until the plunger is rock hard and test drive it.
 
I just talked to my friend. He said a mechanic near where he hunts checked codes, found low fuel pressure. He removed the fuel filter and said it looks ok. He said he couldn't do any more than that, and said to take it to the dealer. That's where it is now. They (dealer) were told not to do anything because they were preparing to rape and pillage. They said they "thought" the injector pump was bad, and the injectors are bad. Now, my buddy and I may not ne diesel mechanics, but we're pretty sure injectors don't go bad all at once. They went on to tell him maybe he should cut his losses. He asked them what they'd give him for it and they told him it had no real value! Bye bye!!
 
You may be fine just throwing a new filter on it. It’s pretty common. But also the duramax injection pumps have been known to fail all of the sudden. I have a 4500 Kodak duramax at work that runs great once started but if it’s shut off it won’t restart hot. Cranking fuel pressure is down and attributed to an injection pump that’s on its way out.
