I'm following Carl Munroe's book in rebuilding my 727. In the part where he describes cleaning and reassembling the governor, he mentions using governor lube/spray. I've never heard of that but found some online for $18-$23.00.

Is this necessary, or is there another lube that can be used? Doesn't anything you put on it get washed away by tranny fluid anyway? Is this just an assembly-type lube?

I have been rebuilding torqueflites for over 35 yrs and always used clean ATF, never used governor lube and never had 1 problem, but using it probably isn't a bad idea. Yes it is an assembly lube that gets washed away.

Never used it either, just make sure it's clean, wet with fluid and the valves move free.
