How many fuel filters is too many fuel filters?

Even if you think you only have one filter, you most likely have two. Assuming everything is stock, the nylon sock on the pickup tube in the gas tank filters out the big stuff before it gets to the pump or into the filter by the carb. Those pickup tube filters often get clogged with debris, and nobody ever thinks to check them.
