How much HP is needed to run 10's? I'm curious to see where I might be one of these days when my dart is ready.

Thanks.

Honestly I have no idea. It's a 67 Dart, 2 summit racing seats no back seat. All steel except for fiberglass hood. Maybe 3300-3500lbs?

Ok thanks. I definitely have the HP to get mid to low 10's. I guess the real key will be chassis tuning, shocks and what am I missing?

3500lbs=10.90-534hp
10.50-597hp
10.00-692hp
3300lbs=10.90-503hp
10.50-563hp
10.00-652hp

this is at the motor!
Cool thanks for the chart Bob.my 73 big block dart wheighs 3520 with me in it and my best time so far has been a 10.49 I'm the 1/4

Go to Wallaceracing.com websight. They have all kinds of calculators to figure out about anything you need to now about hp an et.

Ok done that. I know I have the HP... What do I need to focus on to get the low numbers?

an efficient chassis will give you the low ET....

are you saying that you know for sure how much hp you have or doing like I do, guessing at it?
the chassis is the most important thing after building hp like 70aacuda said. the chassis is everything from the flexplate/flywheel to the rear tire and back to the front suspension. you'll have to get that all in order to hit your numbers.

I know for a fact I am making 600+ at the crank. What needs to be addressed, shocks or the actual frame? What leafs are you guys running out back?

if you don't have this already consider them. lite weight rims, lite weight front tires, bias slicks 29.5x10.5x15, 4 12 way adjustable shocks, the biggest u-joints front and back, at the least superstock springs(002&003) or an adjustable ladder bar set-up with either a floater, slider with stock springs or coil-overs, tie the frames together, 12 point cage, driveshaft loop, trans blanket or shield, mini-tub, 4.10 gears, 4500-5500 converter and manual shift 727. the biggest slick I've been able to get in my mini tubed demon is a 31x10.5x15 and this is with a lot of work to the top outside and front and rear of the wheel houses. if you notch the frame half way in and box it back you should be able to get a 3" wider slick to fit. if you back half and tub you can get any size slick to fit. all this and you should be able to get all your hp to the ground with no problem and pull some pretty dang gum fast numbers.

Junk that went 10.71.

67 Dart.

Well built 440 pump gas engine.
Premium gas 92 octane.
465 rear wheel hp.Off the juice.

3050 lbs
1 race seat
Carpet
7 point cage.
Fiberglass hood.
02-03 ss springs.
8 3/4 with 4.10 gears.
Lowering blocks
Steel rear wheels.
325x15 QT Pro's.
Gas shocks on rear.

Front shocks from Napa bought for a 67 Dart.

60 ft not great.
But a fun street car
Sub frames tied.
Just another way to go.

If you want just a race car do what bob says.

Look at time slip above...and compare to this one

Rt......... .026
60 ft ... .... 1.439
330 .... 4.265
1/8 ...... 6.704
mph.... 100.26
1000 .... 8.832

1/4 10.648 @ 123.51

more efficient chassis....

I was just trying to show that you don't need a lot of high dollar stuff to get into the 10's.
Race car.
Last outing the package were .019,.021,.017.
Crowd pleaser.

My race 68 Dart car runs 1.19 60 ft @ 9.02.
Could go faster by adjusting ladder bars so the car doesn't go so far up on launch.
