let me start by saying im not a MoPar guy. (stop cussin me) i am taking on a project car for my bro-in-law who just passed away at the age of 41. i know nothing about MoPars, and that was our rivelary, he was MoPar and i am a Ford guy. Yes i do get a rash form his cars, and he went blind around mine, but we had a great time racing. He has just about all parts there, a 72 duster or dart(havent looked that close) a 383 HP(?) not sure what trans, but a gear set of 420 with a mini spool. It looks like a 3rd member pumpkin gear set, is the a 8 3/4? i am going to start putting it together because he REALLY wanted to hear it run. This site has helped me a bit, but im sure i will ask some dumb assed questions. thanks guys, i will try to get some pics up as i go.

Welcome to the best Mopar site on the web! Sorry to hear about your bro-in-law. You will learn alot here!

Welcome first of all!

Ask away and don't worry about dumb questions..

I would like to say that you sure a good fellow to take this project on for him! Wow there still some good people out there.

Welcome!! I think its an awesome tribute to your brother-in-law to finish the project that he started!! Best of luck and with all the info so many people here have Im sure it will go easier than you expect.

Welcome Andy and sorry to hear you lost your young bro-in-law.
You came to the right place for help and we won't hold the ford thing against you to much, We have allot of great tec's and good folks here.
Take a good look around and enjoy, I have worked on old fords before
and I would much rather work on mopars.
So this will be a breeze for you.
I am glad you are taking the mopar on for his sake and who knows
you may like the mopar's too.
Jump on in and lets get started

Yes, ask all the questions you`d like to, we`d love to help you with such a worthwhile project. The 8.75 has the removable 3rd member, 4.10 and 4.30 are the usual ring/pinion gear sets you`ll find with them. More than likely the transmission you have to back up that 383 is a 727. Hth.

Welcome Andysdream, there is a ton of infor on this site and guys and gals to help ya out, also check this site http://www.moparts.org/Tech/ out, there's good info and pics on the different rears and trannies offered my mopar and engine articles for both Small and Big blocks. By the way your 383 is classed as a BB if you didn't allready know.

Terry

We're in your corner buddy in a big way. If it's parts or infor there are great guys and gals on here that won't hold ya up. There is everything from powder coating specialist to people that know their rears ends.........that don't sound right for some reason. Anyway we're here to help ya so sing out when you need something. Welcome from Small Block

Welcome to this wonderful place called f.a.b.o.and feel free to ask any and all questions you want and someone will hopefully be able to answer them for you and eventually we'll write our name on your shoe. Lol Welcome!!!

Chris, it's terrific you're carrying the Mopar torch for Andy ... his spirit will live on through all your hard work and dedication. Welcome to the absolute best group of motorheads you'll find anywhere! Remember, the only dumb question is the one that is never asked.

Chris, I get ornery like that sometimes. Don't mind me.

Welcome to FABO Chris. As you can see from the responses so far, this is a very good group of people that will help you as much as possible. Don't worry that you are not a Mopar person ... not everyone can or wants to be. Maybe as the project progresses, you find out why Andy gravitated towards them. Maybe you will become a Ford/Mopar guy just like I am a Mopar/AMC guy. Re: the rearend. If the third member drops out like a 9", than it is an 8 3/4" rearend. Lastly, we would love to see pics as it stands right now. Good luck on your endeavor.
