Anybody know why my oil light would come on when I brake hard? Oil level is good in the car. It is a 74 Duster with a 318.
No damage to the oil pan. And I just changed the oil and the correct amount of oil registered on the dipstick. The sensor did the same thing prior to the oil change.Put a manual gauge on it and drive it. This will tell you for sure if it's a problem. If the manual gauge does the same thing then you know the light isn't lying. Plus how many miles on the engine? It could be that the bearings are that worn and the idle is dropping to low. But the manual gauge will tell you the real oil pressure you have. Maybe a crack in the pickup tube. Is the bottom of the oil pan look dented or smashed?
No sludge, I changed the oil pan gasket when I bought the car. It was leaking. The light doesnt flicker or even come on except right when I start it and if I brake hard. Thanks for all the help. I get a gauge on it and see what's up.I bet a whole dollar there's sludge 1/2" deep or more in the bottom of the pan. When you brake hard, what "little" oil getting in the pickup rushes to the front of the pan and it sucks air cutting the light on.
