Stock long block 318, eddie performer, 1406, hei, dougs, and pypes 2.5.

I grabbed a dual snorkel ram cold air from spectre, which i am plumbing with tubes into the core support... but will have to run a 2" tall filter for it to fit without having drop base filter plate.

I have read about issues getting a drop base to fit over the 1406, having to shim it a bit, which defeats what i need to do.

Soooo, i nabbed an ebay 14x2 element which gives me the space i need.

I was wondering how much I am compromising with the short element, and if it will be worth working on a drop base plate.

I would not worry about it with that setup. We are running more cubes and cam and Edelbrock heads with a 2.4" high filter and I'm not worried after doing some computations on the flow. I am more concerned with hot air under the hood; IHMO, it is good that you are doing a cool air setup.

BTW, you know you can get a drop base that drops 1-1/4" too?

I have, they supposedly dont clear the elec choke on a 1406.

And I went with ceramic headers and cold air setup to keep engine temps low.
