Lightweight forged pistons/rods, stock crankshaft vs regular forged pistons/rods, stock crankshaft.

This refers to a 340, stock stroke and .030 overbore. Is it really a big difference in street cruiser/weekend strip and longevity? Thanks

Doesn't inertia come to play?

Yes, think at the top and bottom of the stroke where change of direction occurs. Are heavier or lighter items easier to change direction and resulting stresses on components.

Lighter is better as long as the components are up to snuff.

Lighter IS better, but on the street you will never see any differance at all. The 340s had the heaviest pistons of the small blocks, and they lasted just fine, even being treated rougher due to being a high performance engine. If you are building an all out race engine, then yes it makes a big differance.

try swinging a 10 lb hammer ...then try swinging a 5 lb hammer....which one can you acelerator and stop faster....
