Is there a way to Identify "locking, or non-locking" 727 tranny with out pulling it out of the car? As near as I can determine, It's a 1968, with p/n J2892031. I'm in need of a new valve body, but can't order one without a determination. Any help appreciated. Howard

Off the Allpar site:

"You can identify a lockup 727 transmission because it has about 5/8" of the end of the smaller input shaft machined smooth. If the splines go out to the end of the shaft (except for about a 1/8" bevel), it's a non lock up transmission."

1978 was the first year for the lockup Torqueflites.
