Installed new lower ball joint on my 69 Barracuda. The new joint seems very stiff and without power steering I am concerned with the steering rebounding. Note that the tie rods are not connected yet. I also have not loaded the grease yet but I believe it came with some already. Any thoughts from the Gurus out there?

Unless you are binding something go with it. Tight suspension parts isn't bad.

As for return to streight...

If it is too bad increase caster. But I suspect as long as all else is ok, time will loosen things up.

I replaced upper ball joints and idler, first few hundred miles steering would not return to streight. After that it was fine.

Some of the new aftermarket ones are stiff, I did a Ford Truck and they were extremely stiff. You have to grease all new components, the little bit that might be in the new parts is just so it doesn’t rust. I have replaced a bunch of replacement parts that were not properly grease on installation, and probably not greased enough when being used.
