Doing the change from power to manual steering in my 69 Dart. Picked up a manual steering box and the pitman arm goes in from the top into the drag link. Where as my power steering box pitman arm came up through the bottom of the drag link. What's the fix for this?? Can I just swap the pitman arms from box to box?? Or do I need to get a different piman arm for the manual box?? Or do I need to find a different year manual box??

Thanks
Derrick

I'm not absolutely certain but I "thought" the change in pitmans was also a change in pitman SPLINE SIZE. Maybe somebody will chime in

Basically, in 67 / later, there's "early" and "late" setups

"Early" IE 67 --72, and "Late" IE 73/ later

In those two groups you must match the center link, the pitman, and the idler, and "probably" the box spline size

That is a good article. 72 earlier, the pitman stud points up on the later model it faces down. I recall this by remembering "Early Up"

So according to the info that was supplied I have an early style (small spline) manual box. See attached pic.

Now what are my options??

The only manual with a larger pitman shaft size was the c-bodies. As far as cars go.

That might be OEM, but if you run into a car where someone has taken a late, big spline pitman, and installed a C body manual box, that IS what you will have in your A, and I've got one.

If that is true you would be better off installing an A- body box. As the C-body box is quiet rare and worth a lot of $$$$$$$$. You won't see that happen very often.
