I have a like new MSD box that came with a trade. Is there a way to check it out off the car to see if it works?

If you have access to a battery.
Here are the instructions for testing it in a car without running the engine, so all you need is power to do it.

I made my own test harness. Large red and black wires to battery with alligator clips,,,,red power wire to positive side of battery with alligator clips. Orange and black wire to spare coil....purple and green pick up wire to spare distributor....I spin distributor by with distributor cap on and short wire to ground.

Also MSD does make a standalone tester for them. Its pricey though.

Scratch white wire on a ground and itll trigger just like points. Rumor has it that you can trigger a solder gun over the MSD and it will trigger also but I dont know for sure.
