That one has a bunch of nitrous solenoid in it, but the basics are ground the activation wires to deactivate the retard. Once the wire is energized, the retard comes in.
Go to the MSD site, search instructions for 8970. It wires the same way as the 8972.
Another heads up to save some scratch. You can make those adjustable retard modules for pennies compared to what MSD sells them for. They are simple potentiometers. I have the resistance levels for each degree of timing to be pulled.
Another way is to get the car running and start the retard, then start dialing up resistance and mark each degree.
I used radio shack stuff to build a 3 step out of a two step module.
Another idea for multiple retard levels

ok i have it hooked up but the mag pickup plug is to be used on the multi step box instead of the 6al?yellow wire to white on 6al.View attachment Img_01503.jpg
Yes the mag plug from distributor goes to the retard box, then hook the retard box yellow to 6AL white. That puts the retard box in line. You don't use the mag plug on your 6AL.
well unfortunatly the car wont run with this box hooked up.acts like no spark.unplug the mag pickup line plug it back in where it was the 6 al and unplug the white wire car fires without even being inside.....called msd tech line and they said run a wire to the battery neg. and hook it to both black wires on both boxes....
