Need help with a possible differential problem

Have a loud high pitched whining noise coming from rear of car . Gets louder when I give it the gas. Nothing is rubbing and pinion nut is tight. Any ideas what it may be? Thinking it may be pinion bearing

That or something changed that allowed the ring/ pinion to wear and make noise.
