well just got home from my frist time at the track. i made 4.5 passes. I wish my car would of went faster. but i did come close to my goal for my street/strip dart. so all in all i am happy with the car. ok on to the good. I finaly get to say i allmost have a mid ten second street car. here is the info from the pass i made.

60 FT 1.5479
330-4.4357
1/8-6.8723
1/8 mph-100.74
1000 et 8.9938
1000 mph 114.68
1/4-10.6859
1/4-124.58

so what do you guys think about this e/t? i did not get to do any tunning because on the 5 pass something let go in my rearend.I thought i had a 5100 stall but at the track it seemed like the converter was only flash stalling around 4600.I shifted at 7000 and went through the end at 65-6600 rpm.I might have a topend fuel problem? because in frist and second it would pull to 7000 like it was nothing but once i was in thired it felt like it was done after 6500 rpm. i hope to get some more out of the car with some tunnning. but i am not racing the car again untill i get a roll bar/cage put in the car. so how did i do my frist time out with a new car? also what ever i did to the rearend it is bad enough that when when we was pushing it off the track etc the rearend would lock up. I have a 30 spline full spool. so what do you think i broke? man i can wate for winter to get over so i can go back out there. thanks Bobby

I dont know what you have done to that 727 but you better check the sprag and if you have a stock drum you really need to check it - if your broke it ( driveline shock will do it ) they become a grenade!

oh yea....I see it in your signature now. I got a 383 Duster running almost the same numbers...well except the 1/4, I only run an 1/8. I already have a cage but if I could go back and not put it in I would. Just added weight. The frame connectors was all I needed. That 440 has a little more *** I guess.

dont worry joe i all ready planed to tear the trans down. my car has a crt low band apply rmvb and a stock drum i will be chaging out when i has the transmission out. thinking about having the convert lossend some also.

what are your 1/8 mile times etc? i thought i ran pretty good seeing i did no tunning. sorry its your car and you can do what ever you want. but my car is getting a bar/cage before it goes back out. sounds like you have a good running 383.

my best last year was in the 6.92's/ 98-99mph. not a real wild motor, around 13.5 on sunoco 114. decent home port job on some 915's- mallory points and a 6t box. pretty simple car. 383 don't twist my car up so that's why I think the cage was a waste. I got a buddy running a 360/408 that's running almost the same numbers as me. I'm kinda dissapointed in my motor after seeing what that 360 will do. My car is gutted/tubbed/ and caged. Is yours still all car or just a track car?

hi mine will be a street/strip car when i get the exhaust on it. I am running 11.3.1 comprssion on 93 pump gas. mine has bowl ported indy ez heads and a comp 634 lift roller cam. i think the heads might be a little big for the stock stroke 440. but next year i might build a 512 for it. yes thoses 360/408 small blocks can be some fast engines. every pass the car was getting faster. that is untill i broke the rearend lol. my goal is to get the car to run some 10.50 passes. also mu convert migth be a little tight for what i have. thanks Bobby

yea, ain't that the way it goes....gets faster and faster then you find the weak point. I got a low budget 8 3/4 with some 5.13's on a full spool. Pop a u-joint every once in a while but went to lakewoods last year and so far no problem. I'm really interested in doing a 408 but the funds are kinda low.

Looks like your 1/8th time is showing some tire spin to get the MPH up that high, mine runs 6.60s at 101 MPH

What gear are you running? I ran a 71 446 Scamp with max wedge heads, the mopar J converter, and 4.86 gears. I started with 5.13's but the car actually was quicker with the 4.86. It ran 6.40's and 60 ft'r was 1.38 with 29 x 11.5 slicks.

hi which mph are you talking about? as far as i could tell or fill i was not spining any. but thats not saying that is was not.

hi i am running 4.10 gears. my 60 foot is kind of soft for some reasion. but i did not get to do any tunning on it. thinking my converter might be a littl tight for the car. also if it matters this car is not a all out race car and i was running it on 93 pump gas.

Not knowing the cam specs but is it designed to pull to 7000? Also a 4.30 gear might help the 60' time. But running a 1/4 mile you don't want to run out of motor before you run out of track.

i think 7000 is too high of a shift point--whats the cam duration at .050?

the EZ head has the standard port size (not max wedge) correct?

id run a 410/430 gear max . with a 29-30" tire

Not saying your converter isnt right --BUT -- I learned the hard way---chasing ET for a full year (why wont my car et? ) --that the CONVERTER needs to be right.

go to wallace racing .com and look up the converter slippage calculator , enter all your data.

when i switched converters my car picked up 3 freakin tenths in the 1/8 and the 1/4 .

sorry---just rambling.......... :munky2:

i'd say you broke the ring and pinion gears. you said 4.5 passes, so you where out of first gear when the rear broke. if so the sprag is not in play after your out of first and will be fine. i think the others are correct in that a higher gear will help you get to the 10.50's. the 440's seem to like between 4.10 and 4.56 gears for some reason.

hi the cam specs are a comp solid roller wich is 264 @ 0.050 and 634 lift with my 1.6 roller rockers. center line is 108 set at 104. i was thinking about some 4.30 gears but i really do not want to make this car into a race only car like my 65 plymouth was. also i really did not get to test shift points etc before the rear let go. but my car ran the 10.68 when i shifted at 7,000 in stead of 6500. but next year i will play with the shift points more and see what it likes.thanks Bobby8)

no problem from me i will take all the advice i can get. I hear you on not useing the right converter. because with my 65 plymouth i went from a soposed good converter fromn a no name company to a 8 inch turbo action one i gained 6 mph. my cam is 264 at 0.50 and is a solid roller and yes i am running stock ports with a mopar m1 tunnelram.oh yea i allways liked your car.i want to put bigger tires under it.but the 275/60/15 drag radiel is as big a tire i can get under my car untill i have the the wheel wells widend.

hi bob i only made it about 40 feet when the rear let go. it shook the car so hard that it poped the horn button off my stearing wheel and nocked open my ash tray lol. my car does have a bolt in sprag. but i am going to pull the trans and see what all if any it broke. I still can beleave it did not brake my rear little conversion joint. my drive shaft has a 7290 joint but my rear is only a 7260. but i will take car of that when i set up the new gears. I have a brand new set of 4.10 gears and a used but like new set of 4.56 gears.but i am really trying to not make this a race only car again. i only went to the track one time this year.

ok here are the times of all of my runs. please look them over and tell me what you think or see wear i might see some improvement.thanks Bobby
