well its ben some time sence i was mostly due to the fact that my motor droped a valve and split the block on the 340 had to trash it. well i got my hands on a 91 360 truck motor with low miles had the block cleand checked and bored 0.030 over had mike at mrl hoke me up with a rotating assy. scat forged crank and rods with maule forged flat top pistons. mony has ben tight so i used the 308 heads had them opend up with 202 pro flow ss valves intake and exhust. ported the heads and 340 victor intake also set it up with a 850 dp. the cam is a custom ground solid flat tapit with roller rockers. the specks on the cam is in lift .558- dur at .050 is 256 on the exh lift is .580 -dur at .050 is 264 -lob sep is 106 plus 4 gives a center line of 102. i also changed the rear set up to a caltracks with split monoe spirings and 9 way rear shocks from calvert racing..i also installed a trans brake and a 2 step msd lonch controle, dont know what the 408 will due in the 67 cuda. thae car has 4.56 gears from the 340 set up and a ptc 4000 stall conv. not sure if it will work well with the 408. anny ideas...

ps i also installed a nos cheater syst. the cars best with the 340 was 7.48 in tge 1/8 mile hope the 408 gets it down the track a little better..

If you have a 28" tall tire AND you are running 1/4 mile, then the 4.56 is probably a little too high. If you are running 1/8 mile you're fine. The gears will work but it will be wound up pretty tight. I have 4.10 gears in mine with a 28" tall tire and it is about 6700 ish at the stripe (1/4 mile).

I don't understand the statement that "money has been tight so i used the 308 heads", but then you add a custom cam, Caltraks, split mono's, 9 ways, trans-brake, 2 step....but hey, everybody is different....I just would have spent the extra 1500+ dollars on good heads. It should be a fun ride regardless, my guess is low 11's 1/4 mile or low 7's in the 1/8.

i did the car set up befor the motor. wial i was working on the motor i got heart at work, blew the left knee out and had it fixed then 4 days later i came down with dubble nephmonea...spelling sucks.... was out of work for almost 2 months now i am bock on the motor and yes money is a little tight due to that...i will run it in the 1/8.. till i can git a set of gears...

Geezz what do you need to know? go run it! Should run a 10 second et. Years ago with less we ran mid 10's with junk heads and less gear etc. Have fun and don't expect to much from questions that make folks heads explode. OK?

Yup - 308 heads are decent. How good they feed a 4" stroke depends on the porting. IMO they would be adequate for it. I'm sure it will outrun the 340.

Sounds like the perfect set up.
If it stalled at 4000 grand before it will stall at a higher rpm now.
The cam is a high rpm runner....I don't really see any problems.
I think it all depends on how good the porting was....408's need air.

well i think its time to git the car buttoned up and see what it will do at the track... got the car down to 2874 pounds with me in it. need to git the cale track system adjusted and set up.

WOW...you're about 400 lbs lighter than my car...it should go even quicker than I was guessing. When are you going to give it a shake down run?

i pulled out the a/c replaced the power steering with a manuel set up removed the front drum set up replaced it with disk brakes. removed the heater and air box . the compleat car harnis was removed the k frame was lightend also the trunk floer was cut out and replaced with alumenum. 5gal fuel cell all the inside was striped out and the trunk block off is alumenum. one seat in the car light race seat. front and rear bumper brakets wear lightend and so on. note all the removed parts wear saved and boxed up incase i want to turn it back into a street car.. a lot of work in gitting the wight down..
