A friend's wife's 86 325 BMW sedan might be soon available. Should I consider it; original owners, garaged 76K, babied it's entire life. mint in and out, but I haven't talked to him about mechanical work done/needed and price yet. It would be a daily driver but I don't want to constantly have to throw money into it. Thoughts?

Normally, I would steer anyone away from any German made vehicle, but that is now. Back then they were the finely made cars Germany was famous for. You couldn't give me a new one, but you could give me that '86! I would buy it.

As long as the timing belt is in good condition it's pretty tough to kill one of those cars. I have one in the shop right now that the odometer quit working at 330k and still going. I'd rather drive an e30 than an e36.
