Did you see the base timing setting?

That is what we often set the timing in engines with big cams!

Not a lean burn but it did have some weird spark control system with no vacuum advance.

Someone screwed up.

They rarely leave batteries in these cars.

The car is complete. Aside from some body damage, I couldn’t find anything missing. It has an 8.25 axle with 2.45 gears and 10” drum brakes. These axles are close to 62-70 B body width and would fit a Duster or Demon.
The 11” front discs look excellent.
Go get ‘em !

THIS was posted only to alert the FABO members that need the parts this car has. I am NOT interested in pulling parts from this car to sell.

What all were you looking for? Did you end up taking anything home?

junkyard csi: who was under there and what were they getting? is that valvoline box your yard kit? was there a power steering cooler on that one?

i *think* E46 is just 318 4bbl. E48 is po-po 318.
i don't pay much attention unless it's E58 or EH1, A38, ELE

I was at the yard to get something for the Wife's Honda....rats or mice chewed a wire to one of the fuel injectors. I walked the Mopars since I was there anyway. I didn't take anything from the Chrysler. I have 3 sets of disc Knuckles already. If the rear axle had a 3.21 gear, I would have pulled it. A 2.45 gear ain't my thing.

That Valvoline cardboard box was what I used for the few tools I brought.
I didn't see a power steering cooler. The A/C compressor looked unusual. The ThermoQuad was dirty but complete.
I'm guessing the transmission was the low gear 904. Anyone know how to determine that?

that's not protocol! you need either a tore up back pack or a gallon container with the handle still intact and a little access hole cut in the front!

compressor is just an early sanden type. i don't think there's any outward indication of low gears on the transmission, so you'd have to run the number on it.

i don't know if TQ's are falling out of favor or dude's just aren't picking them up at the yard any more but i've seen about 1/2 dozen in the last month.

I like the Thermoquads.
I pulled one last month from this same yard, off of a 76 Van with a 440.

Watching this one

A 998 would be behind a 318. Hard to say for certain if it has the low gear set.
chris, is this one of those: open it up and find out situations or is there a way to determine if something will have a low set from either the numbers or years produced? like after [blank] year they all came with low sets. or is it purely roll of the dice?

I think it was after '81 on a 998 with the low gear set, but I'm not 100% certain.

Yeah it'd be one of those deals to pull the pump and drums out of it to find out. I have several factory publications/technical service bulletins I can look for more info and maybe come up with something..

if, in your travels, you came across such info i would be most appreciative for it.

beats the pants off breaking a unit down in the gravel with two rocks and a screwdriver to check what guts it's got before hauling it up to pay for it.
