Odometer Stuck - '66 Dart

Okay, I have a '66 Dart and it was about to roll over to 40K the other day. However, it's stuck at 39,999.9 and the new zero's have all but worked there wat down but the 4 just won't drop. I can hear a click each time it's supposed to roll another 10th, but the 4 just hangs. The speedometer sways back and forth in rythm with the 10th miles click.

Is this a typical problem, any ideas on how to fix?

The 4 is trying to pull all those 9s over . The problem isn't so much the 4 as resistance in the other digit rollers.
If you pull the instrument and assist the movement by hand it might continue to work. Any cleaning or lubricating should be done carefully and lightly. 3in1 oil is what I use in them.

Oddly enough, the next day it finally dragged the other rollers down. Working good now. On a lazy sunday I'll see if I can take it out and give it a light cleaning.
