oil pump casting

anybody heave issues with sealed power oil pump
I'm trying to get the distributor in the hole and it doesn't hit go all the way down.
I'm looking at the one that came out and the one I put in the shaft that goes into block has extra step in it I'm thinking it is interfering with the gear.
before I pull it out can somebody shed some light on my situation

what I did is put my glasses on and looked again.
damn this getting old thing sucks.

i fought fitted the kicdown linkage and throttle today , cranked her over until oil gauge was up . then fired her up
so im glad she ran no problems rev her up to 4 grand for about 10 seconds and then called it a day.
monday will do the break in , then curious to see her idle, ( yeah right ! burn a patch a rubber)
