1972 Dart 318. Has the 2-piece-with-nut black metal pcv that is bad.

First: Does it matter which side of the engine gets the pcv? I have looked at pictures here and seems either side is OK.

Second: Does it matter if I use the 273 or 318 pcv? The 273 seems to be metal and the 318 ones are plastic.

Thanks

There is no difference between a 273 PCV valve and a 318 PCV valve; the differences were by production date. Original equipment starting in '72 was the 1-piece plastic valve that looks like the current Chrysler p/n 5175351AA. The metal valve with retainer nut was used '64-'69. The '70-'71 cars got a half-metal/half-plastic valve. The '61-'63 cars got a different type of metal valve that could be disassembled for cleaning, and a brass or steel screw-on elbow.

It does not matter whether the PCV valve is on the left and the breather is on the right or vice versa.

Dan.. Makes sense now, my 72 was built in May and the engine late 71. Thanks for the schooling.
