I need to replace the variable wiper switch, and hook up the linkage, so I need to remove the A/C under dash distribution box for access . How many screws to remove it? Then does it just slide out?

I'm also considering leaving it off altogether once I get it out, to allow more space under the dash for a gauge panel. There is no A/C hooked up. Does anyone have a picture of the hole that would be left if it is removed? The heater is functional, and I'm wondering if I could just fabricate a block off plate or a grill of some sort if it needs to stay open.

If it is similar to my 66, there are two 7/16" nuts in holes accessed from the bottom front of unit. The studs are in the lower dash rail. There is a thick foam gasket connection to A/C heater box. The heater box opening is about 5" x 7", from memory.

Thanks, that tells me what I needed to know, and thanks for posting the picture Jim.
