restoring "woodgrain" on '73 dash bezel?

What's a good technique (or service provider) for restoring the '73 instrument cluster, dash, and glovebox bezels? It looks to me like nothing but brown paint with maybe a little black rubbed into the phony "woodgrain", but surely someone here has dealt with this need before, right? I'm aware of the light and dark wood stick-on appliqué kits from whitegauges.net, and might go that route, but I'm curious what techniques or vendors others here have used. The one I'm installing is pretty good, but since I'm going to the trouble, I'd rather have it as close as possible to poyfect:
