I,ve got conflicting instructions for installing 69 340 hyd. rocker shafts.Small block book by Don Taylor says to put notch down and to front on driver side, and notch down and to rear on passenger side.Another book says both notches down and to the front. Anyone ?

Don't worry about where the notches go, just make sure the oil holes in the shaft and rocker stands line up and you're good to go.

The book you quoted is correct. The notches go down and the right side goes to the rear and the left side to the front. Look closely how they are drilled. The oil hole is located at the friction point of the rocker arm and the shaft. You WILL have a trashed valve train if done any other way. Don't ask me how I know this. Bob

I've always tightened 3-2-4-1-5. That is starting in the middle and working out. Also I tighten a half turn at a time to draw the shaft down against the pedestals.
