What can I upgrade now?
My speedo is off on my 73 Duster with warm 318. When it reads 55, I believe that it is 65, as my tach reads 2150 RPM-2200 RPM. When the speedo reads 65, its turning 2500-2600 RPM. I have used the gear ratio calculators, but seem a bit inaccurate.
My 7.25 rear -supposidly- has a 2.76, as it was a plain jane 2 bbl car when I got it and has the 2.76 gear tab on the cover. The rear has no play in it and makes no noises. Its fairly solid.
With this gear, what RPM with 26-27" tires should the motor be turning at 65 mph? It has a 904 for a trans. Is it possible that it may be a 2.94 or 3.23 gear and I'm being fooled by the tag into thinking nobody would put a better gear into a 2 bbl car before I got it? Thanks. :scratch:
