FABO,

So, long story but will keep it short as possible. Picked up another 65 'Cuda to use as a 'parts car' because, why not... Car was 'marketed' as a Commando minus the engine, guy sold engine separately and first... I didn't know Commando cars were a thing, thought they were just cars with Commando engine(s) but I'm a newbee.. Anyway, the car has less rust, a Tac, torsion and sway bars, and a 8.75 rather than a 7.25 rear like the S's do, so I figure why not build this one rather than the rusted POS that I started with... Plus it's basically striped for paint already...

Thats where I sit, but nothing can be simple... I got holes... Not Rust holes but what appear to be trim holes where there shouldn't be no f**ing trim. Lookit...

They start at the front of (both) doors and run to the back of the car. My other 'Cuda don't got these...

Nor do any pictures that I find on the inter web of "65 'Cudas.

Any body got an Idea of what these could be for? The guy I got the car from gave me a lot of extra trim and stuff (when I'm done I'm going to offer it up here on FABO) so I can't easily match up odd or extra pieces, said he went through 4 'Parts Cars' building up this one. And I believe him because he threw in 4 extra rear windows... (anybody want a rear window for a '65 Cuda, let me know Ha Ha, but what do you do not take 'em??) But the guy was a crazy person (of which there are many out there) because he kept things like the back windows and didn't have and engine... How can someone go through 4 parts cars and not have an engine...

Anyway Do I fill these holes before I send this to the paint shop? Or, do I run a spare spear down the side? Did I mention the VIN shows this is a Taxi.. (V8525xxxxx). Did 'Cuda Taxis have special trim down the sides???

Maybe I'm a crazy person... I bought a 'Cuda with no engine and didn't even check it for holes...

Thanks in advance for your advice and or assistance, I love FABO.

I don't know about the origin but it's also possible they are from add on trim from who knows when.

Those are lightening holes. That car is gonna be a rocket.

It depends on what you want to build. If you dont want trim on the sides, weld up the holes. If you want the trim, dig through what you have and see what fits those holes and the car.

It probably runs 12's with the extra weight removed you better get a roll bar!

They are not for any factory trim and must be from some aftermarket stuff?! Fill em and move on!!

I'd weld em shut from the back and fill them with filler on the outside to minimize outer body work.

It's possibel to do this, but the right way is to back the hole with a piece of copper and weld it up from the outside.

as small as those holes are you just mig them up. no need to back them or weld them from the back side. just use .030 wire

If the tach and sway bar are factory, you probably have a Formula S which is more rare than a Commando car.

If you have a fender tag, you should decode it to find out what you have.
1965 Mopar Fendertag codes

PocketAces,

Unfortunately not fender tag. Has Commando V8 emblem, with what appear to be appropriate holes in front fenders. Tach appears period correct but there isn't correct holes for mounting in/on dash, but then I've never installed a tach.. I'll have to do some more digging through the pile(s) of parts... As I stated, I thought the Commando V8 tag just referred to the engine (which didn't come with the car), maybe he found and added the Sway and Torsion Bars and rear end, there isn't any build sheet or fender tag to help.

Formula S didn't have trim down the sides, right?? I believe thats just wrong

PRRC,

Thanks, that's what I was thinking. Who would put trim there??
