I am going to pull the original 318 2bbl and replace it with the 340 that I built. I built the 340 to 400hp. I want to keep the perfectly working stock AC. Should I be concerned with the AC compressor and clutch assembly spinning @ 6000rpm? Some folks have told me the clutch could seize up.

They did tell me that if i went with a modern compressor it would be able to take more RPM for longer, but then it wouldn't look stock like you are after.

Just shut the A/C off if you are going to 'play'. I have never had a problem with mine.

It's not as easy as that. The compressor pulley is not designed to spin much over 5000/5500rpm for very long. The will and do fail.
