I purchased a distributor at a swap meet a couple of months ago and was wondering if anyone could decode this a little more. I was thinking that this was a genuine Mopar OEM slant 6 and not an after-market. It seems like a quality unit with a heavy tan cap. It looks a little dirty, but they're is no evidence that it was ever bolted down. The plate on the side is # 3874598 tried looking it up, but all I get is a bunch of ads. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, thank you very much btw I purchased a couple of caps from you in the past and was very pleased with them.

before you in stall that put the o rings on the shaft or else it will leak. Take the rotor off and show a picture in side , if it’s held by a screw not that metal clip might be a aftermarket.

Not sure what you mean, but here is a picture.
Thank you

OEM opar 1976, Tou do need the upper and lower orings also. The lower is kind of flat not round.

Read and follow the suggestions in this long (but worthwhile) thread re caps and rotors.

The O-rings mentioned in this thread go on the shank of the distributor where it goes into the block. There are two. See here for details.

And might's well read the HEI upgrade article, too.
