Maybe I an overthinking this. I replaced the steering gear in my 72 Scamp. I want to reinstall the pitman arm and steering column tonite. How do I get the wheel, pitman arm and tires all in the right position?

there is a one wider groove on pitman arm/steering colum so it goes just in one position, least thats what my 72 duster had

There should be master splines at every connection. With everything centered the master spline is on top at steering gear to box coupling and the shaft to steering wheel.

With tires pointing straight ahead, center the steering box by counting turns lock to lock on the steering wheel and cutting that # of turns in 1/2. Example: if your wheel has 4 full turns lock to lock, turn wheel back 2 turns to center.......

Line the pitman arm up with the steering box & install arm.

I don't remember anymore, but I believe if you've had the coupler apart for rebuild/ grease, etc, that you can get it 1/2 turn out, which will of course put the steering wheel upside down.
