Tar Chip road

-
That's what they do to county roads. They call it triple coating. It's ok after all the lose stuff gets knocked off.

Penndot did that on one of the local State Routes to "band aid" / Disguise a sink hole that they don't want to fix.

Not only is it getting worse (People actually have to swerve into the other lane to avoid it), but there are multiple sections of pavement on that road that are crumbling away and caving in. But, penndot won't fix any of it. They probably won't bother fixing it until someone dies.

chip seal...cheap fix for a road........or band aid

Chip -n- seal is great for traction once the loose stuff is worn off..... Line 'em up!:D

tar/gravel here in Eastern Washington.....absolute nightmare on a bike....

Hey, if you can get out there between the tar truck and the gravel truck you can get a free undercoating!
C

they do that in Saskatchewan , nothing like being on the only highway and running up on a crew doing 20 miles of that crap , nowhere to go but follow the damn pilot car and listen to the paint chipping off your car .

The last time they did that around here it took a weekend to get all the freakin' tar off the truck. It looked like they were trying to use up the rest of the tar or ran out of cinders.

Better than a gravel/dirt road.

Except that when a dirt road gets rough and bumpy, it can be graded and smoothed, whereas a shitty, bumpy, pothole filled road will stay that way for years until the only politician that lives nearby complains and they come out and fix it!!

Our triple coating out here in the county must be different than what you describe. They paved ours from dirt about ten years ago and it's held up very well. I also agree that the surface is much safer, especially in the rain.

True but the chloride spray they put on dirt is horrible for your car.

All he highways here in MT are tar/chip. It sucks to go through a fresh section, bu when finished it's no different than plain asphalt of debris, better for traction in adverse conditions and easier to see at night.
