Planning a major drive-train swap after the new year in my 318 '72 Duster.

The goals are aligned with a used Mustang/Challenger/ Ect. 400 crank HP, basic EFI (Holley Sniper/ Fitech), Overdrive, basic suspension/brake upgrades.

The Car is currently an Automatic, and the plan was to stick with that.

All I currently have is a A727 Core (for big block), and the current researched options are:

A) 727 with Gear Vendors
B) Adapter with A518 or 2004R
C) TCI Auto 4X
D) SST Transmission Swap

Questions

1) The original part of the budget was less than $4k. All these options seem to be well over it, so do I need to move my budget way up?

2) Knowing the TCI Auto 4X is based on the 4L80E what is the guess/assumption of body modification I will have to perform?

3) what is the confidence level that the 4X will hold up to the Big Block?

4) I thought that some individuals had performed option 2 quite a bit cheaper with the small blocks. Other than an adapter, is this a better option?

One of the cost issues if I will most likely have a professional rebuild any used transmission to maintain schedule of the build.

Thanks!
