TF 904 lock up, first year?????

Any one know what year the lock up 904 came out? I just bought to more power-trains (360 and 318) both out of 1978 cars. Well I thought I got a good deal thinking that I also got two spare transmissions. Wrong. Both have lock up 904's. Now I have three lock up 904's laying around. Drat! I thought they did not come out with lock up transmissions till the 80s?

If you lived closer- I would trade ya. I am getting 2 904's. One from a Lil Red Express and the other from a Warlock.

I may be showing my ignorance here but what's wrong with lockups? Better gas mileage, no?

Mileage is irrelevant when you are driving it 1/4 mile at a time. LOL
Non lock up is better for racing, and has more converter choices.
