............And it's the end of the 7:30--9PM shift LOL. I ate a light supper, took some more Tylenol, and the huge giant storm isn't here YET, in fact at 7:30 it was as warm as it's been all day. That "rough" backed the truck under the bed? Lowered the bed and I only had to move the truck on back about 1/2--3/4" inch and pull on the bed by hand sideways about 3/8 and STARTED ALL 8 BOLTS IN and then let the bed down.

Pictures! We want pictures dangit! lol

LOL!!! You want pitcchhuurreesszz??! 6AM this morning, Nov4

By the way, late yesterday afternoon was the very first time I backed it out of the lift. To get in and out on the lift, I have to get up on the lift arm, open the door (opens only a little against the lift) and "slither" into the pickup. After I backed it out I got out for the very first time "as normal" and DAMN NEAR FELL because IT WAS SO FAR DOWN!!!

Wow! You got a lot done. If you had one more warm day, you could have bled the brakes, tightened up the bed bolts and been ready to roll.
Great thread Del!

1..I have "a fair amount" left. I either have to find or build a transfer case shifter and depending on how that works out, either re-install the "console" or rig some sort of boots/ floor mat to cover
2..Install bumpers and this involves tearing the brackets off the donor truck bumpers (which are in worse shape than mine) and getting them intalled

3..Re-tie and connect the rear harness, and there is a big winch power wire and backup camera wiring as well

4...Set up toe, check caster / camber, and center steering wheel

5...Deal with front drive shaft which is a puzzle. I have the shaft out of the 97/ V10 auto/ donor, and the one out of the "too short" 5 speed Cummins "rolling frame" and the Cummins one is a bit (1 1/2"?) longer. "I would think" it would fit, but it actually SEEMS like both are too long.

This is difficult to judge because it is "up" on the suspension, and will need compression room when hitting hard bumps, etc. So THAT will be a ???? I'm hoping that when the truck is at "full empty weight" it will be easier to deal with. I ACTUALLY thought about pulling the shocks and front springs, on the hoist, so I can "let it down" and see where we sit.

Zero on the project today. Snow early morning heavy as sh*t about 1 1/2--2" turned to rain ALL DAY. There is about an inch of water in the back yard. Took the bad tractor tire and 2 pickup tires in for service. Miserable wet day

FourForty Feck up............managed to "tap" the hood on the tower and fecked it up. Neighbor says he could straighten it, but to day I was using the loader to flip the 12' Crestliner upside down on the trailer for winter, so I lifted the hood off the donor truck. It is ugly, but straight. Someone hosed it down---AND the chrome grille---with flat black. I'll just swap them. I was thinking of getting it Maaco'ed anyhow..........

I guess there just HAD to be a fuckup in this deal somewhere.............

DID get the brakes bled, and while there is a usable pedal, nothing like the rock hard pedal it used to have. I'm thinking the God Damned ABS which are RW only

Sunday. Got the hoods swapped "I'm stupid." That went well tho--used the front loader and tie down straps. Easy. Tire joint called very late yesterday.......I'd taken the Farmall tire in I blew up weeks ago. So I got that on this afternoon, and chained 'er up. Winter comin.
Got the rear bumper bolts argued in just before 4:30, it's too dark to work now
Decent day, fairly calm and dry.

Well THIS is interesting. I was "arguing" with front driveshaft length and ended up reading some of the "Torque King" website. It turns out that the way (and I should have realized!!!) the axle 4 links are set up AKA BEHIND the axle and ANGLED UP, that the driveshaft gets LONGER as the springs are COMPRESSED because (obviously) the arms are moving closer to horizontal and therefore further from the pivot point
Starting to look like the V10 shaft might fit after all. Unfortunately the ball pivot in the CV joint is toast

You better get the insulated coveralls on and get to work before winter really sets in.
It looks pretty ugly and cold up there.
I 'll be thinking about you, here in the balmy LC valley. lol

I've reverted to my childhood-----oversize, outside pair of jeans from the thrift store and two old jackets one over the other. I feel like "Ralphie" in "Christmas story" LOL

Well it's basically drivable--once I get the toe set, and I hope to do that tomorrow via the neighbor's shop, mostly the "shop floor." Lacking bumper, transfer case shifter, front shaft, so no 4WD "yet" and a few other details, and no tail lights. I suspect a ratty looking license plate light blew the fuse

I basically "eased" it around the block, as the tie rod/ drag link sleeves are loose Front wheels are "odd" because originals will not clear the steering arms

Successful maiden voyage!

Success! Heck yea! That was a lot of work Del, glad you finally got her moving.

Got the toe set, but not perfect. The tires are wet and snowy, and no place to dry it off. Difficult to get good marks on the tires for the gauge. Good enough to drive around this winter, I won't be doing any highway for any distance.

Short blast on the freeway today, it wanders all over, and even at 30-35 noticeable. I enlisted the parts gal at Motion to wiggle the steering wheel and confirmed---track bar. When I checked it "by hand" it seemed pretty good, so tomorrow THAT will get done.

Also bought the centering ball kit for the front drive shaft CV joint and some U joints---the front shaft out of the donor seems like it will work. Couple more days or this weekend, should have "functioning 4WD"

Not looking forward to arguing with bumper brackets---remember, those are essentially carriage bolts. If I have to I'm just gonna say "ef it" and put hex bolts in the damn things

Made a pleasant trip over to Spokane Valley to Spalding Auto wrecking/ parts this morning, they gave me an escort IN A VEHICLE who drove out into the yard and we looked for and found a transfer case shifter, complete from boot / knob and shifter for all of 33 BUX!!!

The screw holes are ALREADY DIMPLED into the floor!!!
