Tin can night

I've asked this on a couple other forums and no one has ever heard of it. In the early eighties I went to grade school in a small town (population roughly 700)and they had trick or treating the night before Halloween, so the kids could go to one of the bigger towns on Halloween. They called the night before Halloween "Tin Can Night". Has anybody ever heard of this?
